Over 100 people took part in athletics event at the Gainsborough Riverside Festival on the 16th June 2012.

Lincolnshire Athletics Network and Gainsborough and Morton Striders offered adults and children the chance to take part in the speed gun race.

The speed gun allowed each runner to measure how fast they could run in MPH.

The whole day was about promoting the club and getting more people aware of what Gainsborough and Morton Striders do and what new or existing initiatives people can take part in.

Rachel Belcher the Athletics Coordinator at Lincolnshire Sports Partnership, said:

“The whole day was fantastic. It was a real family occasion which was excellent to see.  We had some really fast times and everyone who took part seemed to really enjoy themselves. A massive thank you goes to Gainsborough and Morton Striders for Coordinating Lincolnshire Athletics Networks involvement at the event and for providing the volunteers on the day.

Paul Dagg from Gainsborough and Morton Striders said:

“It was encouraging to see over 100 children from Gainsborough get involved with our Athletic activities on the day and it’s clear that the competitive spirit is alive and kicking in local kids. We’re launching our Junior Section over the Summer so it will be interesting to watch many of these runners develop over the coming years. Who knows? With the help of The Striders and Jog Lincolnshire we could have some future Olympians in the town!”

If you’re aged twelve and over, why not contact info@gainsboroughrunningclub.co.uk to see how you can benefit from getting involved.
